Also since ghosts actually LOSE focus for using rend it's better to use their other skills rather than engaging at melee range with them.

This will make regaining your Templars focus easier and will also make the most use of your ghost in the battle overall. You should summon this thing as soon as your Templar has a break in combat to do so. Your goal with this setup is to hit 3 focus ASAP and get your ghost on the field. You have to use this thing ASAP though, waiting to summon it until you need it will end up with you summoning your ghost only to realize it doesn't get to move until the next turn, and it will probably die as a result. This is made up for by the fact that you'll have a lot more ranged attacks and are more of a support role anyway. Your damage output wont be hugely hampered, but you'll be spending your focus a lot more than if you went DPS which will mean less movement range and less damage overall. Ghost is the best max skill for a utility Templar. A 60% chance to block and reflect the enemies damage back at them is no joke, and Arc Wave turns your melee hits into an AoE cone that deals twice the amount of focus you have to enemies behind your main target. Don't delve too deeply into those types of focus spending skills though, you'll want the ones that add survivability and passive bonuses for having focus like parry, deflect/reflect, and Arc Wave. Just note that the AoE and damage go down as your focus does, so a 3 focus storm is always more powerful than a 2 focus one.

This also potentially allows you to use skills that cost 1 focus like Volt or Amplify before using your storm without having to lose all of your focus, since you'll get it back if you kill 3 targets at once anyway. You can easily set em up and knock em down with this skill, all without losing your focus bonus, which is what you need to do to keep their damage as high as you can. How you spend your focus depends on which of these 2 paths you take.įor damage I'd HIGHLY recommend Psionic Storm as their max level ability, since it costs 2 focus but gives you 1 back for each target you kill and does potentially massive damage.
#Xcom 2 templar full#
Either you go full damage or extreme utility. You could give them extra armor or something else if you already have enough mimic beacons.įrom my experience I'd say there's 2 ways to set up your templar. Giving them superior movement PCS and a mimic beacon makes their utility very good since their damage is already good enough and can't be improved upon by items anyway. Personally I treat these guys a lot like rangers. You'll get +1 damage and +1 movement per point of focus, on top of 10% dodge for the first 2 points then 5% for the third once you unlock the skill for it. Rend damage only goes up with focus and upgrading your gloves VIA weapon research.
